Summer meeting 2013
UTÖ CALLING DX’ERS (updated 5/5/2013 with pricing information)
The annual summer meeting of the Finnish DX Association will be held on August 2nd
-4th, 2013, on the beautiful island of Uto in the Finnish archipelago. See www.uto.fi for more information on this exotic island and its history.
Because of its optimum location in the middle of the Baltic Sea with no local transmitters Utö has been
the site for many FM DXpeditions during the last ten years. The dxing history can be found at http://utofmdx.blogspot.fi/
We’ll also have time to see the fragile nature of this barren island and also its central landmark, the
lighthouse built in 1814. The sea in all its beauty will be all around us, and there are also reminders of its
treacherousness, i.e. memorials of sunken ships, such as m/s Park Island in 1947 and m/s Estonia in 1994.
More information on accommodation packages will follow soon.
The trip to the island will be made with m/s Eivor (http://www.rosita.fi/mseivor) that leaves at the small
harbor of Pärnäinen/Pärnäs in Nauvo (see Google maps for “Nauvon merivartioasema”) . The trip on the
ferry is free of charge. There’s a small restaurant/canteen on board.
No cars are allowed on the ferry or in Utö, so you need to park at the harbor. Also, there is one ferry
crossing a strait on the main road. The ferry gets crowded during weekends, so preserve plenty of time for
the drive and don’t believe your GPS for drive times. If you’re early, the guest harbor of Nauvo is a perfect
place for having lunch. There are bus connections to the harbor both from Turku (direct) and Helsinki (change at Piispanristi).
Buses have priority on the ferry, so you can count on their timetables given at www.matkahuolto.fi.
Friday August 2nd
1815 Pärnäinen/Pärnäs, all aboard on m/s Eivor. Be there in advance to park your car.
